William R. McBride, age 78 of Chardon passed away July 19, 2015 at his home. Born May 18, 1937 in Chardon to Howard and Lucille (nee: Piatt) McBride, he had been in the area for 15 years. Bill attended Case Western before serving with the US Navy for 22 years. He was a Navy Pilot and an intelligence officer, serving on 17 different aircraft carriers. Bill also served in the early days of the Apollo Program, sharing a space suit with Gus Grissom. He then graduated from University of Nebraska-Omaha. Bill worked as a Naval Attache in Rome, Italy and retired as a Commander. While living in Asheville, NC Bill was a wine distributor serving the area. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, enjoyed sailing and loved traveling. He is survived by his wife June (nee: Simpson) McBride of Chardon; sister Marleah (Don) Trelease of Hume, MO and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Susie (nee: Hutto) McBride, who preceded him in death Dec. 1, 2007. Private family services were held.
