William L. O’Brien, 72, of Chardon Township, passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.Born Sept. 5, 1937, he has lived in Chardon for the past 45 years.He married Malaney Spangler on June 10, 1961, in Ripley, N.Y.Mr. O’Brien served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of The Church of St. Mary in Chardon where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing, and going to casinos and on cruises with his wife and children.Mr. O’Brien worked for Eaton Corp. for 21 years before retiring from Chardon Metal Products as a machinist in 2007.Survivors include his wife, Malaney O’Brien of Chardon Township; children, Kevin O’Brien of Chardon, Lori (Arthur) Butt of Huntsburg and Erin (Kevin) Knife of Chardon; two brothers, Tom O’Brien of Florida and Greg (Karen) O’Brien of Chardon; four grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Stephanie and Brittany; and one great-grandchild on the way.He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence (Foster) O’Brien.The Rev. Timothy Kalista of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
