Steve Malensek, 64, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, September 24, surrounded by his loving family after an inspirational journey with cancer.
A longtime resident of Burton, some of his fondest memories revolved around the town, his days playing basketball for the Badgers, all Cleveland sports, hunting and fishing, his lifelong friends made while working at Great Lakes Cheese, and his friendship with Bill for the past 13 years. Ultimately, his greatest joy was simply helping others and making those around him happy, particularly in his later years while running his business, Fix It Man in a Van, and helping members of the community through the Department on Aging. Steve’s courage and strength were derived from his faith and fellowship at Parkside Church, and his sly smile and heartfelt laughter will long be remembered by all who knew him.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Pip; his children, Chris (Bridget), Nate (Katie), and Kelly (Tom); his two grandchildren, Caden and Brooke; his sister, Vicki (Al); and his brothers, Terry (Mary Kay) and Craig (Debbie).
Honoring his wishes, no services will be held, but a Celebration of Life will be planned next year, with details to be provided at a later date. Instead of flowers or donations, we would prefer a simple act of kindness in recognition of how Steve lived his life.
In loving memory … “Holy smokes!”
