Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Dr. Ohanessian graduated from High School in 1948 and came to the United States the same year. He had been a Chester Twp. resident before moving to Chardon in 1999. He died at the Briar Hill Care Center, Middlefield, OH. He was a Cardiology Physician at Geauga Regional Hospital from 1962 to 1992. Dr. Ohanessian married Cartha Jean Roy, June 4, 1955, in New York City. She preceded in death on March 2, 2006. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving as a Lt. Commander from 1957 until 1959. His medical training included: Graduating from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. in 1951; followed by Medical School at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, New York, graduating in 1955. He then continued his medical training at Philadelphia General Hospital and State University of New York Medical Center. Dr. Ohanessian began his local career at Geauga Community Hospital in 1962. He was the founder and director of the Coronary Care Unit and the Non-invasive Cardiac Laboratory. He was also on the staff of Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Hts., University Hospitals of Cleveland, St. Vincent Charity Hospital, and Highland View Hospital.Dr. Ohanessian maintained a private cardiology practice in Chardon and Chesterland from 1962 until 1992.Memberships include: St. Gregory of Narek Armenian Church in Richmond Hts., OH; Charter member and Past President of the Chardon Rotary Club; Member and Past President of the Geauga Co.
