Sandra L. Wilkes, age 85 of Newbury went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 3, 2023. Born September 14, 1937, to Manuel and Lucille (nee: Harrod) Newsom in Dade City, FL. She married Paul Wilkes on January 18, 1957, she had been a 50 plus year Newbury resident.

She loved working in the family businesses. Most of all Sandra enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, David (Tammy) Wilkes of Newbury, OH and Mona (Rick) Oetting of Boomer, NC; grandchildren Brandon (Brandon Helms) Wilkes of Fort Myers, FL, David (Maggie Ross) Wilkes Jr. of Russell, OH and Caitlin (Jeremy) Stewart of Newbury, OH; great-grandchildren, Carmen, Brantley, Kylie and Mason.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Shawn Wilkes; brothers, James and Donald Smith.

There will be a private burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery per Sandra’s request.

The family suggest donations to Cleveland City Mission, 5310 Carnegie Ave., Cleveland, OH 44103.

Mona and family, So sorry for your loss. Grandma was so nice to us through the years. I know she is at peace and with the Lord. Prayers to your family during this time.

I was glad I got to know Grandma Sandy thru working with Caitlin. She was always so kind and sweet, wanting to hear about what my little family was up to in Virginia. She was truly a special lady. Sending love and prayers for the family.

What a wonderful woman! So glad to know her and work for her and Paul at Hi-Lite Maintenance many moons ago. I was happy to reconnect this past year when she was at Holly with my mother. My wife and I enjoyed taking her out for Mother's Day to Chagrin Falls to a restaurant overlooking the falls. I loved joking around with her every time I visited and always asked her if she was a member of the "clean plate club" after her meals. Of course she yelled a big "NO" to me and I told her she couldn't have dessert. I will miss seeing her, but will not forget her either. She is in a place now that she longed for - with Jesus. That part makes my heart happy. She was one of a kind!
