Age 95, of Chardon, fell asleep in death on Saturday, September 21st surrounded by family at home. Sam was born to Pasquale and Teresa (nee: Console) Straniero on April 3, 1924 in Cleveland. He joined the Brick Layers Local Union #5 in 1949, and was known for his masonry skills until his retirement in 1986. Sam was a member of the Chardon Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and always felt that his work of teaching others about God’s Kingdom as the only solution to the world’s problems was his most important work. Matthew 24:14, Psalms 37:10 & 11, 29 & 34, John 5:28 & 29, Isaiah 25:8 were some scriptures that he shared often.
Sam is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joan (nee: Anderson), sons: John (Kathy) Straniero and Sam (Janet – Deceased) Straniero; daughters: Sara (Jerry) Lines and Becky (Rob) Gilkey; grandchildren: Jonathan (Kathryn) Straniero, Wendy (Zach) Haines, Brett (Sandra) Bolan, Jeff (Lauren) Bolan, Jocelyn (Dan) Emerson, Cheyenne Gilkey, Robby (Hannah) Gilkey; great-grandchildren: Shaelyn and Delaney Emerson, Mason Bolan, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Mary Palazzo; brothers: Nick, Tony, Albert and Arthur.
The family will accept visitors at Munson Township Community Room, 12210 Auburn Road, Chardon, OH on Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 4pm to 8pm. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
