Ruth Marie Fernandez, of Hambden Twp., Ohio, passed away at the age of 96, on Friday, April 21, 2023. Ruth lived a long, fulfilling life and was adored by her husband and family.

Ruth was born to Roy and Ruth Gatts in 1927 and had three brothers, Roy, Guy, and Clarence. She grew up in Kent, Ohio, and served as the drum major at Kent Roosevelt High School. She enjoyed starring in many theatrical productions and musicals. She met the love of her life, Harry, at a dance during her college years at Kent State. They were engaged shortly after meeting and shared 73 years of marriage together. They built their family home in Hambden along with a farm in Rome and raised three sons.

Ruth had many talents and hobbies. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed dancing, bowling, golfing, knitting, stained glass, painting, and baseball. A long time Cleveland Indians fan, Ruth rarely missed watching or listening to a game. Ruth was a teacher for 30 years, mainly teaching art at Perry schools. Ruth brought joy to many children during her 12 years of walking in the Geauga County Maple Festival as Bubbly the Clown. She enjoyed activities with her grandchildren and made sure holidays and birthdays were special.

Ruth was loved by all for her charm, class, and spunky personality. Ruth is survived by sons, Rick (Cindy), Fern (Barb), six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Alan, and granddaughter Tia.
