Ruth Alice Bartunek, age 83, passed away at the Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, after a two year battle with cancer.Born in Cleveland, OH, November 26, 1925. she had been a Geauga County resident since 1958.She was a Music Teacher for Cleveland Public Schools, Chardon Local Schools and Berkshire Local Schools.31 years, retiring in 1986Ruth A. Weenink married Elmer Bartunek in Cleveland, OH, on July 27, 1951. He preceded in death in 1979. Graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, Conservatory of Music with a BA degree.Member of Phi Mu Sorority, Mu Phi Epsilon music honorary, Past member of Delta Kappa Gamma.Past President of the Chardon Teacher’s Association and the Geauga County Educator’s Assoc.Representative to OEA and NEA Conventions.She loved to travel, having visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and AfricaEnjoyed many days spent at cabin on property owned in Ontario, Canada. Mrs. Bartunek toured to Washington DC, Canada and Williamsburg with the “Bakers Dozen” and “Rhythm of Life” , her swing choirs from Berkshire Local Schools.Spending time with her family was the central point of her life.,She is survived by her daughter, Debra Valvoda Leaverton of Claridon Twp., OH, 2 Grandsons, Jason James (Heather) of Claridon Twp., OH and Paul Louis (Carrie) of Munson Twp., OH, Great Grandson, Kyle James ValvodaGreat Granddaughter, Harlee Ann ValvodaShe is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Pearl O. (Nee, Murphy) Weenink and her husband, Elmer Bartunek.
