Roger Steven Richards, age 61, passed away Sunday, August 30th, 2009 in Edgewater, FL. Roger was born in Chardon, OH and graduated from Chardon High School in 1965. He attended Kent State University. He then moved to Florida and continued his education at Miami-Dade University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.He went to work for Eastern Airlines, but was not able to utilize his commercial pilot’s license because the airlines were hiring pilots returning from Viet Nam (who had logged so much more flight time than he). Roger bought a welding shop in New Smyrna Beach, FL and has worked in that field since that time.He enjoyed converting Volkswagen Beetles into “rail car’s” and “Baja’s”.Roger is survived by his son, Jason (Marybeth) Richards, of Freehold, NJ; his parents, Paul and Clara Jean(Hartman) Richards; sisters, Lynda Richards, Bonnie (Jim) Brainard, Debbie (Dave Rennie) Richards, Annette (Jeff) Polson, and Paula (Hans) Geiss; nieces, Jennifer (Ken) Freeman and Tanya Geiss; nephews, Mike Barham, Matt Barham, and Justin (Vanessa) Geiss; great niece, Chloe Geiss; great-nephew, Anthony Barham; and special uncle, Bob Richards.He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff. He leaves behind a good friend of 17 years, Karen Petroni; a special friend and classmate, Sharon Dressler, and former wife, Sally Fleisher Richards.
