ROBERT MERL STIVERSON SR., age 83, of Hambden Twp., OH, died on Sunday, December 27, 2020. He was born in E. Cleveland, OH, on April 16, 1937, to Arthur M. and Beatrice Amy (Nee: Farley) Stiverson and was a 1955 graduate of Chardon High School. Bob married Lois Jean Schlegel on June 8, 1957, in Painesville, OH.

Bob was a lifelong Chardon area resident. He had worked for Uniroyal in Fairport, Ohio, but was also a woodworker, building homes and doing home repair. He was a member of the Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon; Village Lodge #274 F&AM in Burton, OH; a 32nd degree Member of the Valley of Cleveland Scottish Rite; a member of Urania Chapter #284 OES in Painesville. He had also been a member of the NEO Model A Club. For over 60 years, Bob enjoyed camping at Cook Forest in PA with his family. He also enjoyed going to Cass, West Virginia, where he worked on restoring train cars and steam engines.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Hambden Twp.; 2 daughters, Karen Stiverson of Hambden Twp. and Lesley (Mark) McDougle of Mentor, OH; son Robert M. (Susan) Stiverson Jr. of Windsor, CO; grandchildren Lauren McDougle and Jacquelyn (Nick) Rendall; 2 great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with a public Masonic Service at 7:45 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 8:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 116 South St., Chardon, OH.

Contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 (lovetotherescue.org). Arrangements entrusted to the Burr Funeral Home. Information and condolences online at www.burrservice.com.

We will never forget Bob...his sense of humor and care for others. Also his love of cats and trains!! When he found out about my love of trains (especially steam engines like the Nickle Plate Road #765), he sent me lots of emails of both. I just wanted to express my condolences. I have so many memories of growing up on Wintergreen Drive and constantly being over at Bob's house and seeing Mr. and Mrs. Stiverson (Bob and Lois), and Leslie and Karen, and of course the time I got to accompany you to Cook Forest (and ending being sick for the weekend, lol, sorry!), they're all some of my longest and happiest memories, and I also remember helping on a few houses that Mr. Stiverson built. We enjoyed every moment that we shared with Bob. His sense of humor always made us smile! Blessed to call him "family." Prayers of comfort to everyone!

Lois, Lesley, Karen and Family...So sorry to hear of your loss. We will remember Bob for his gentle manner, his kindness and his sense of humor. He will live forever in our hearts.

I very much miss my grandfather, affectionately known as Pop. Pop loved his children, granddaughters and great granddaughters. He also loved history, visiting Cook’s Forest, train rides, and was often spotted with his camera around his neck to document occasions. In fact I didn’t realize just how often he was behind the camera instead of in front of it until now. He loved to build and built a desk, a toy box, a cradle and a rocking swan (& probably quite a bit more things!) that I really loved as a child. One Christmas, I went with him to his wood shop and he helped me build a sleigh for my dolls, and even his great grandchildren have been able to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Most recently, Charlotte and Siena enjoyed playing with (and sitting in) the cradle this Christmas. He loved Nick’s barbecue when he visited and sent lots of emails with recipes and webcams. He loved learning about the Founding Fathers, and took me and my cousin Lauren on a history tour one summer. We saw Monticello, Jamestown, Williamsburg and more, and a couple years later he visited me when I worked at Monticello one summer. He had a story to share for many places, and enjoyed sharing the history of wherever we were. I’m so glad he was able to meet both of my girls, and miss him very much.

Bob's jokes and emails were always a high light of my day. Sharing many meals with Bob and Lois was always a good time. Sending Love and prayers to Lois and Karen and Family.

Bob and his wife were my in-laws (Skeet and Kay Lyon) neighbors for many years. Great neighbors I should add! It seems like every other week or so Bob and I would always wave and exchanged friendly hellos at Heinen’s. He remembered me and Beth, and would always take time for kidding and wish-you-wells. I’m taken back by his passing but am so honored to have known him. In my six eight year journey living in Chardon, many people have come along. Some I wish to forget and others like Bob I wish to not only remember, but aspire to be like. He made a difference in my life for the better and I know this is true of others as well. Beth and I offer our deepest condolences to the family. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
