Robert Chester Phillips passed away peacefully at Geauga Hospital on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at the age of 89. He was born on Nov. 1, 1919, in Andover, Ohio. Graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937 and married Betty Louise Mote of Austinburg, Ohio, on Dec. 4, 1943. As a Veteran of W.W.II, he served with the 84th Army Division in the Battle of The Bulge. In the service he was a radio operator, which would lead to one of his greatest passions later in life.In addition to his family, his favorite passions were his ham radio and being a handyman. After his retirement in 1981 and move to Zephyrhills, Fla., he spent time everyday talking to his friends around the world on the ham radio net. He also became the handyman for the 200 mobile homes in the park in which they lived, as well as, the Westside Baptist Church where they were members. In July 2008, Robert and Betty moved to Huntsburg, Ohio, to be near family.Robert is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 65 years; a brother, Richard Phillips (Carol) of Bridgeport, Tex.; a sister, Betty Daniels of Ashtabula, Ohio; a son, Robert L. Phillips (Diann) of Chardon, Ohio; and a daughter, Mary Gogul of Lizella, Ga. Robert had six grandchildren and twelve adoring great-grandchildren.Two sons, David C. Phillips and Kenneth J. Phillips precede him in death, as well as, two sisters and a brother.
