Richard Stokes, 82, of Chardon Township, died Oct. 8, 2008, at his home.Born April 19, 1926, in Cleveland, he lived there before moving to Chardon Township in 1956.He married Mary George in Perkasie, Pa. on July 24, 1954.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II. Mr. Stokes enjoyed aviation, was a glider pilot, was an avid photographer and skeet shooter and was very fond of animals, especially dogs.Mr. Stokes was a builder and was in construction and leasing from 1972 until his retirement in 2006.Survivors are his wife, Mary (George) Stokes; son, Patrick (Vicki) Stokes of St. Simons Island, Ga. and grandchildren, Jessica and Morgan Stokes.He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel (Castle) Stokes; and sister and brothers.The Rev. Henry Woodruff, Ph.D., of Chardon United Methodist Church will officiate. Private family burial will be held at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
