Mr. Hatton graduated from the Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, OH in 1937. Following high school, he worked at a local bank. He then joined the Navy and while on a double date, met his wife Joan Snyder of Franklin, PA, whom he married in the summer of 1942 in Warren, OH. Starting in the 1940’s, Mr. Hatton entered the radio broadcasting business with WJW Radio in Akron then moving with the station to the Cleveland area. During his years at the station he became know as the “Dick Hatton; Man with the Hat,” a live radio broadcast with on-the-street interviews along with writing and narrating the comedy radio series “Trick Dacey.” Mr. Hatton was the Chief of Police for North Randall in the early 1950’s. Along with his interests in the broadcasting field, Mr. Hatton also loved to operate his ham radio, a life long hobby since age 5. Through the years on the ham radio, he talked to many notable ham operators from King Hussein of Jordan to Admiral Byrd while he was crossing the Antarctic. Mr. Hatton was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League and was at the top of the Honor Roll for many years with the DX Century Club, both for ham radio operators. Survivors include his daughters Jane (Douglas) Hunter of Rome, OH, Ann (Dan) Munn of Toledo, OH; his son Dr. Raymond Hatton of Yuma, AZ; his grandchildren Jennifer (Jim) Moore of Mt. Vernon, OH, Leslie Hatton, Esq. of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Esther Munn of Toledo, OH; and his great-grandchild Faith Moore of Mt. Vernon, OH. He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Ernest E. and Jessie (nee: Russell) Hatton and his granddaughter Heather Hatton.
