Richard Clifford Diedrich, age 88, died Friday, January 25, 2019, at The Residence of Chardon after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 26, 1930 in Chardon, OH. He was the son of the late Clifford Griswold Diedrich and Maurine Alice VanWagoner. A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio but had resided in the Geneva/Ashtabula, OH area for over 30 years. He attended Chardon High School and joined the US Navy stationed on the aircraft carrier, Oriskany. He was a Korean War Veteran and an honored member of the VFW in Geneva, OH where he served as Sr. Vice Commander and Chaplain. He was also a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Montville OH. Employed by United Parcel Service for over 30 years, he received the “Safe Driving” award while serving the Ashtabula and Lake Country areas. He loved his job and was always ready to give a smile and friendly “hello”…a real dedicated employee! He enjoyed travels to Las Vegas, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, North Carolina, New York and Canada. He was truly a carefree spirit who loved life. Survivors are his sister, Jane Diedrich (Pete) Peterson of Mooresville, NC; brothers, George (Judy) Diedrich of Chardon Village and Bob (Gloria) Diedrich of Hambden Township; children; Lorrie Volz (Scott), Kathy Gingerich (Ray), David Diedrich (Lori), Joseph Diedrich (Wendy) and 15 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, C. Raymond Diedrich. He leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to cherish his memory.
