Mrs. Tharp worked hard all her life, starting when she was in High School as a Clerk at the local 5 and Dime Store in Weston, WVa. She worked at the Ravenna Arsenal during World War II, a real “Rosie the Riveter”. She was a nurse’s aid at the former “Old Corey Hospital” in Chardon Village for many years. She then went to work for the former Cromwell Rexall Drug Store on Main Street in Chardon after Corey Hospital closed. She remained in the drug store realm for many years, working for the former Lehman Pharmacy, also on Main Street. Mrs. Tharp was an active member of Pilgrim Christian Church, Chardon where she was a member of Women’s Fellowship. She could usually be seen wearing her apron at all church dinners and pancake breakfasts. She maintained her membership and friendships with the church family after her move to NY. While in NY, she attended the Three Village Church and belonged to the Women’s Resource Team. She would readily help make a meal for those in need and attended their Retreats and Special Teas. She loved to bake and would always make sure there was something “sweet” to take along to her “Just Friends Group”, enjoying lunch with other seniors every Thursday. She loved being with her family, especially her 2 granddaughters and did much to enrich their lives. She enjoyed the people of “Main Street” and was happiest when working and helping others. survivors include her daughter Paulette (Frederick) Walter of E. Setauket, NY and granddaughters Laura Marie Walter and Emily Rose Walter of E. Setauket, NY. Donations are suggested to the Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 S. Hambden Street, Chardon, OH, 44024.
