Patricia Calapa Humberson (nee Kodek).
It is with the most profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Calapa Humberson (nee Kodek). Patricia died peacefully at her home on December 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Patricia (also lovingly called Pat, Mom, Grandma, and GG) was born on August 16, 1936, in Cleveland to Gladys and John Kodek. She was the oldest of the four Kodek girls and always looked out for and fiercely loved her sisters. She graduated from South High School in 1954.
On June 29, 1957, Pat married the love of her life, Joseph Albert Calapa, and started their family, which would become her greatest legacy. Together, they had four beautiful children: Anthony, Joe, Kathy, and the late John. Upon her husband’s unexpected passing after moving to Mantua in 1969, Pat decided to stay in town with her children and raised them (with lots of help from family, friends, and neighbors) as a single mother for many years.
Pat had many jobs throughout life; she put her heart and soul into everything she did as a hairstylist/beautician, waitress, Swagelok employee, Avon salesperson, and beyond. Above everything else, Pat cared about other people and making them happy.
In her spare time, Pat had several hobbies, but her favorite was sewing and quilting. All of her loved ones have been gifted a quilt or two that Pat made, which are cherished by all. She also loved playing cards and games, reading, cooking, bowling, going to sporting events, and swimming in the pool with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Pat loved her Cleveland sports too — especially the Guardians — and always had the game on. Finally, Pat loved to be around animals and dogs, especially her late dog Annabelle, whom she missed dearly.
She is preceded in death by her wonderful parents Gladys and John, her first husband and the love of her life Joseph Calapa, her infant son John Calapa, her second husband Stan Humberson, and sisters Donna Kokely and Marien Kodek.
She is survived by her three loving children, Anthony (Lorri) Calapa, Joe (Lisa) Calapa, and Kathy (Bob) Lieberth, as well as her sister Michelle (Tim) Florencki. She’s also survived by her grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) Calapa, Cody (Carli) Calapa, Troy (Sarah) Calapa, Danny (Danielle) Lieberth, Andrew Calapa, Karlie (Jeremiah) Poole, Julianne Calapa, and Jake Lieberth. Pat commonly said her great-grandchildren were the loves of her life, including Laney, AJ, Zack, Sonny, Brady, Grayson, and McKinley. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends.
Pat was one of the most beautiful, sweet, kind, genuine, and witty souls to walk this earth. Her family and friends will miss her dearly but are at peace knowing she has been reunited with her many loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Patricia’s name to Crossroads Hospice (3743 Boettler Oaks Dr. Suite E Uniontown, OH 44685) or to the Portage Animal Protective League (PO Box 927 Ravenna, OH 44266).
Details for Pat’s Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
