Olive E. Schultz (nee: Bates) of Chardon, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the age of 91. Olive was born on January 9, 1932, in Detroit Michigan to Robert E. and Rena M. Bates. The family relocated to Orwell Ohio where Olive graduated from Grand Valley High School in 1950. She married Howard Allen Schultz on April 16, 1955, and raised four children after moving to Chardon.
Olive is survived by her four children; Linda (William) Arotin, Howard A. (Christine) Schultz Jr., Melody (Marc) Stolarsky, and Holly (John Neylon) Schultz. Olive is also survived by her and Howard’s eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins, and close special friend Kristy Filla.
Olive is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and beloved husband Howard who passed away on March 1, 2005.
Olive’s passion in life was to take care of others, primarily via her career as a Hospice Home Health Aid for Visiting Nurse Service for twenty-five years. She also was often the first to step up for family and friends with medical needs, and joyfully cared for each of her young grandchildren and great grandchildren during their pre-school years. In addition to those roles, Olive worked at Snap-Out Forms and The Geauga Times Leader and volunteered at Maple Elementary School and Pilgrim Christian Church of Chardon where she was a long-time member of the congregation.
Olive will be remembered for her fierce love of people and animals especially horses, a witty sense of humor and more than occasional curse word when in the presence of her loved ones. Her hobbies included fishing, sewing, baking, painting, gardening and burning the rolls every holiday. Prior to Howard’s passing, the couple travelled the country in their RV. Olive was a strong, independent woman who supported women’s rights and made certain to vote her conscious in every election. She will be missed by many including her little dog Maggie May and grumpy cat Dolly.
A Memorial Service celebrating Olive’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 South Hambden St., Chardon, Ohio 44024. Following the Memorial Service, all are invited to a lunch and visitation with the family in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
