Olga V. (Vasilenko) Novicky, 82, of Prospect, Conn., died April 8, 2008, at Holly Hill Care Center in Newbury Township.Born Jan. 12, 1926, in Passaic, N.J., she was raised and spent the majority of her life in Garfield, N.J., moving to Hillsdale, N.J., in 1963, and then Prospect, Conn., in 1972. She moved to be close to her daughter in Chardon in 2005, living at Holly Hill Care Center in Newbury Township.Mrs. Novicky began her career as a legal secretary for several local judges. After her children began school, Mrs. Novicky returned to work for Bendix Corporation in New Jersey. She later was a secretary to the head of the legal department and then served as trademark administrator for Timex Corp. legal department in Connecticut for 18 years, retiring in 1991.Mrs. Novicky was an active member and former president of the Prospect Senior Citizens Group in Prospect, Conn., and the St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church in Waterbury, Conn. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for AIDS babies in local hospitals. She volunteered at a local nursing home in Prospect and called bingo for the residents. In her younger years, Mrs. Novicky was very active with the Amvets Auxiliary in New Jersey, having served as state president and a Girl Scout Troup leader. First and foremost, Mrs. Novicky loved her grandchildren.Survivors are her daughter, Betty-Jane B.J. (Robert) Penrod of Chardon; son, Richard (Lynn Weigel) Novicky of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; grandchildren, Stephen (Dr. Carolyn) Penrod of Macedonia, Jennifer (Christopher) Comito of Orrville, and Katherine Penrod of Chardon; and great-grandchildren, Juliet Penrod, Alexander Penrod and Daniel Comito.Her husband, Stephen R. Novicky, whom she married Feb. 15, 1947, in Passaic, N.J., died May 2, 2005. Her parents, Peter and Julia (Humenik) Vasilenko; and siblings, Ann, Joseph, Nicholas and Peter, are also deceased.Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Penrod will officiate the service. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, N.J.
