Melodye “Mel” Ruth Nickita, Age 67, went home to the Lord on February 15, 2023. She was born to William and Eileen (nee: Starkvick) McCoy on October 7, 1955, in Ashtabula, OH. She met the love of her life in high school, Nick Nickita, and they later married on April 17, 1982. Mel was an avid reader and retired after 33 years working at the circulation desk at the Geauga County Library. Mel loved participating in the book discussion club held at the library. She enjoyed the simple things in life, like sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and spending time with her dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Nick, and sister Susie (David) Renkel; Half-brothers, Timothy and Jimmy Mason. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Mel is preceded by her parents and siblings, Kimberly (Nicholas) Salvatore and Devon (Doug) Patterson.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Family asks the donations be made to the Geauga County Dog Warden, 12513 Merritt Rd, Chardon Oh, 44024 or the Geauga County Library Foundation, https://geaugalibrary.net/about/gc-library-foundation/donate-to-gclf/, in her name.

I had very mixed feelings about Mel retiring from the Chardon Library. On the one hand, she’d been a great librarian and deserved a comfortable retirement. I was happy for her. On the other hand, we’d grown old together over that library counter. Mel watched my kids grow up and knew them all by name. She knew many of my grandchildren. I simply couldn’t imagine going to the library and never talking to Mel there again. As someone else said here, she was one of the people in Chardon who made this a great place to live. Now this sad news.

I’m so sorry to hear , Melodye grew up in the same neighborhood that I did. I missed seeing her and our chats at the library when she retired. She was a beautiful , kind soul.

Mel's warm smile and cheerful persona was always a welcoming presence at the Chardon branch of the Geauga County Public Libraries. Nancy's time working at the library was a very pleasant experience thanks to her fellow librarians including Mel. Melodyne helped make Chardon a wonderful place to live.

We will miss Melodye! I loved her fun sense of humor at the library!

So sorry to hear about Melodye , she was a bridesmaid in my wedding in the 70’s . Loved her smile. Sympathies to her family and pets she’s left behind .

I am so sorry to learn of Melodye's passing. She was such a kind soul and a great encourager. I knew her from the Ghardon Library and I was in her sister's class Kim from CHS, class of '79. Melodye's smile and graciousness of helping you and just being an all around caring individual brightened up your day! Prayers for the family.

Sorry for your loss. She was my sister-in-law for awhile. She was a wonderful person and I loved her. She will be missed.
