Funeral services for Mary Naomi Stokes (nee George), 92, of Chardon Township, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on State Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon. The Rev. Henry Woodruff Ph.D. (retired), will officiate.Mrs. Stokes passed away Dec. 24, 2010, at her home in Chardon Township.Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Trumbauersville, Pa., she lived in Cleveland before moving to Chardon Township in 1956.Mrs. Stokes was a registered nurse in Krile VA in Parma and Perkasie, Pa., before she was with Visiting Nurse in Cleveland.Mary Naomi George married Richard Earl Stokes July 24, 1954, in Perkasie. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2008.Mrs. Stokes proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps during World War II in Panama and Texas from 1941 to 1946.She was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia with a degree in nursing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed volunteering at the former Geauga Community Hospital in Claridon Township for many years.Survivors include her son, Richard Patrick “Pat” (Vicki Lange) Stokes of St. Simons Island, Ga.; granddaughters, Jessica and Morgan Stokes of St. Simons Island; and sister-in-law, Peggy George of Doylestown, Pa.She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stokes; parents, Franklin K. and Emma (Weidner) George; sisters, Myrtle Nase and Ruth Pehlert; and brother, Glenn George.Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A private family burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
