Margaret Elizabeth Hewitt Anderson, (nee: Wilber), peacefully passed away on January 16, 2024, at the UH Geauga Medical Center at the age of 98. She was born on October 8, 1925, to Merle and Agnes Wilber, nee Hoyt.

Maggie, Mo, Grandma Mag, as she was affectionately known, grew up in East Trumbull in a large family of twelve, consisting of 9 boys and 3 girls. Her childhood was filled with countless adventures that she loved to share with others. She retired as a housekeeper from the old Geauga Hospital, where she dedicated many years of service on the first and second floors, south.

During the 40s and 50s, Maggie was an active participant in women’s softball. She cherished summer vacations with her family and her sister, Evelyn’s family at Buckhorn Lake, Canada, where they created lasting memories. Her passion for sports extended to her beloved Cleveland Indians and Chardon Football.

Maggie had a variety of interests, including word searches, jigsaw puzzles, playing the harmonica and sitting on the front porch, watching the world go by.  Her joy in attending her great-grandchildren’s school activities was evident, and she especially loved Friday nights filled with pizza and beer.

Maggie attributed her long and fulfilling life to her humor and the belief that Centrum Silver was her secret. She made sure to tell everyone she met how old she was.

Maggie is survived by her children, Karen Hewitt, and Scott Hewitt, both residing in Chardon, OH. She leaves behind grandchildren Carrie (Shawn) Morris, Crystal (Larry) Cassesa, Mitch (Gail) Hewitt, and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Lena, Lucas Cassesa, Alexis (Austyn) Spoon, Morgan Morris, Caleb, Briella, Colton, Jericho Hewitt. She is also survived by her brothers John, Robert, and Gordon Wilber.

Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, David R. Anderson, and ex-husband Gordon Hewitt, as well as brothers Adelbert, Ivan, Alvin, Larry, Donald, and Norman Wilber, and sisters Georgia Frey and Evelyn Fernandez.

The family extends special thanks to the nurses on one south at UH Geauga Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion during Maggie’s final days.

Maggie will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Maggie’s life will be held in the Spring. Arrangements are entrusted to the Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Chardon, Ohio.
