Leona M. Wetzel, 94, of Hambden Township, passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg Township.She was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Alverda, Pa.She was a resident of Hambden Township for 45 years and was a prior resident of Cleveland.A homemaker, Leona Mary Shuss married William David Wetzel Jr. May 14, 1936, in Alverda. He preceded her in death in 1995.She was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Chardon and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Geauga County Fair Board, where she enjoyed working in the Flower Hall.Survivors include her four sons, William Wetzel of Huntingdon-Cambridgeshire, England, Eugene (Nancy) Wetzel of Hambden Township, Robert (Marilyn) Wetzel of Bloomington, Ill. and Joel Wetzel of Chardon; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and three brothers, Adrian and Paul Shuss of Akin, S.C., and Richard Shuss of Madison.She was preceded in death by her husband, William Wetzel; three sons and two daughters; daughter-in-law, Pauline Wetzel; parents, Charles and Evelyn (Gautner) Shuss and five brothers.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 100 Main St., Carrolltown, Pa.Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon; and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Stevens Funeral Home, 219 Main St., Carrolltown.
