Lowell Russell “Russ” Crane, Age 79 of Chardon, died unexpectedly November 9, 2018 at UH Geauga Medical Center. Born May 18, 1939, in Quinwood, WV to Loftis and Hettie (nee: Meadows) Crane, Russ was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He and his family built their log home from the ground up. He was a gardener, beekeeper, woodworker and archer. Russ loved making bows and arrows for family and friends. A 1957 graduate of Chardon High School, he retired from Ford Motor Company, Walton Hills, after 30 years. After his retirement he enjoyed his time working at Lake Metro Parks.

Russ is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sydney (nee: Yurkschatt) Crane; sons Lowell (Jane) of Anchorage, AK and Leonard (Pam) of Toivola, MI; grandchildren Brandon (Julia) of Avon, Megan (Peter) Croke of Tremont, Nathan and Ian of Negaunee, MI and great granddaughter, Cecilia Pearl.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, with a Celebration of his Life to follow at 6:00 PM.

Dear Family, Russ's passing was a shock for all of us. That West Virginia boy became a loved member of our family. Remembering his sparing with Dad and of course his respect for Mom and Aunt Pearl warms our hearts. My children's first comment was "he's one family member we really liked". Can't think of a person who didn't really like him and respect him. Love to you Syd and your family. Sharon

Sydney, I am so sorry for your loss. Russ was such a sweet man. I enjoyed watching the wonderful way he loved & cared for you as his wife. Im glad throughout the few years I've had the pleasure of knowing him. He will truly be missed. My condolences.

To the Crane family, So sorry for loss. Our condolences to you. Russ was a nice fellow. We met him through Geauga Bowman club. Always kind and willing to help where it was needed. Knowledgeable when it came to traditional bows and archery. We loved his great sense of humor! Tim Sr, (myself) Barb, and Tim Jr. were found of him.
