Katherine Theresa Maharas, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, died September 14, 2019 in Cleveland, Ohio after a brief illness. She was 73. Katherine was born on November 7, 1945 in Cleveland to the late Georgiana Perry Maharas and Albert Maharas.
She was a graduate of Charles F. Brush High School in Lyndhurst, Ohio and attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority on that campus. Katherine worked in advertising agencies on the West Coast and in the retail industry. She was actively involved with the Nottingham Methodist Church in Cleveland as both a volunteer and choir member and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and appreciated her kindness.
Katherine was an accomplished equestrian, competed in a number of horse shows and taught horseback riding while serving as a camp counselor at a girls’ resident camp. She also excelled in other sports, taught sailing and held certification as a Water Safety Instructor. Katherine was part of a pair figure skating team with her brother James for a number of years in Cleveland. Spirited and bright, she bravely met a number of life’s challenges and was loved by family and friends.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Georgiana Stuart, and is survived by her siblings James Maharas (Kandy), Marian Maharas (David Ranson); nephew Michael Maharas (Jacqueline); niece Lynn Maharas (René Banda); great-niece Lucy Maharas, great-nephew Wesley Maharas and great-nephew Henry Maharas-Banda.
She will be laid to rest in Colorado close to her family.
