Joseph J. Gefreda, 77 of Chardon, died March 18, 2005, at his son’s home in Perry.Born Feb. 18, 1928, in Cleveland, he lived in Cleveland before moving to Chardon three years ago.He was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Chardon, and while living in Cleveland, he was a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Cleveland. After retirement, Joseph and his wife, Gloria bought and sold antiques all over northeast Ohio, including the Great Burton Antique Market. They owned and operated Annie’s Attic and Kollector’s Korner, both on 156 Street in Cleveland. He served as President of Union Local 1179 and the United Steel Workers of America.Mr. Gufreda was a steelworker for Republic Steel and LTV Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1985.Survivors are his wife, Gloria DePaolo of Chardon, whom he married on July 25, 1953, in Euclid; daughter, Glorianne (Mark) Unrein of Munson Township; sons, Joseph Jr. (Jo) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Tim (Patsy) of Perry; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Jay Gufreda of Bedford and Millie (Tony) Amaddio of University Heights; and brother, Sandy (Mary) Gufreda of Portland, Ore.He was preceded in death by his parents, Santo and Mary (Morello) Gufreda; sister, Betty Gufreda; and grandson, David Xavier Gufreda.
