Mr. Svoboda was an active member of the Church of St. Mary, Chardon, serving on the Finance Council.He was also a past president and member of the former NEO Hospital Board in Madison, member and board-member of the Geneva Rod and Gun Club, Geneva, member of the American Trap Shooting Association, the National Rifle Association and Legend Lake Golf Club in Munson Twp. He enjoyed competitive trap shooting, was an avid outdoorsman, hunting in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Montana, Colorado, Newfoundland, and Alaska, traveling throughout the Midwest and also enjoyed vegetable gardening. He previously held a private pilots license, owned his own plane and enjoying flying out of Concord Air Park. He was a member of the American Welding Society, having founded Fabcraft, Inc. in Chardon in 1968 and owned Chardon Welding, Inc. from 1986 until his retirement from both in 2005. Survivors include his wife Mary J. (nee: Thompson) Svoboda of Munson Twp., whom he married in Chardon, January 16, 1971; sons Anthony Svoboda of Newbury Twp. and John M. (Amy) Svoboda Jr. of Harpersfield Twp.; grandchildren Ashlee and Eric Himes and Cody and Andrew Svoboda;sisters Mary Ann Hartman of Canton and Sister Melannie Svoboda, Sisters of Notre Dame, Munson Twp. and brother Paul (Charlene) Svoboda of Sheffield Lake. His parents John J. and Mildred (Nee: Mach) Svoboda and infant brother Frankie Svoboda preceded him in death.
