John Bitonti, 89, of Munson Township, died Jan. 29, 2009, at his residence.Born Nov. 26, 1919, in Loralee Mining, W.Va., he had lived in Cleveland before moving to Munson Township in 1960.He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was a graduate of Shaw High School and a member of American Legion Post 167 in Chardon and the Geauga County Senior Center, where he also was a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer. He also volunteered for the “Good Buys/Discovery Shop” of the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed bowling at Ernst Lanes in Chardon and was always ready to help his family, friends and those in need.Mr. Bitonti worked as a color matching printer for Braden-Sutphin in Cleveland for 39 years.Survivors are his wife, Pauline (nee Triantos), whom he married June 19, 1948, in Cleveland; daughter, Judith (Frank) Galinsky of Hambden Township; son, John M. (Marianne) Bitonti of Munson Township; brother, Albert Bitonti of Mayfield Heights; and sisters, Theresa Hill of Cleveland, Victoria Bitonti of Lyndhurst and Virginia Poncar of Hannahan, S.C.He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Katherine (nee Cimino) Bitonti; two sisters, Rose Pignanelli and Anne Bitonti; and two brothers, Rosario and Salvatore Bitonti.The Rev. Curtis May will officiate the service. Burial will be in Fowler’s Mill Cemetery in Munson Township.
