In loving memory of Jason Daniel Kankula, age 47, of Chardon, who peacefully passed away on December 22, 2023 with his family by his side. Jason was born on February 24, 1976, to Wayne Allen and Rose (nee: Ostrander) Kankula in Mayfield Heights, OH. He was a proud graduate of Chardon High School and a devoted member of St. Lucy Parish in Middlefield.
For over two decades, Jason dedicated himself to his work at Giant Eagle, where he formed lasting connections with his colleagues. The support and camaraderie of his fellow employees meant a great deal to him.
Beyond his professional life, Jason was a talented musician, known for his skillful drumming in the Blues Band called the Snake Rattlers. He also expressed his musical passion through the blues box guitar. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of activities like fishing, camping, and riding 4-wheelers and dirt bikes. He loved to make people laugh, he had a unique gift for bringing joy to others through laughter. His sense of humor and quick wit were truly special, he had a kind soul, and unwavering faith in Christ illuminated the lives of those around him.
Jason is survived by his father, Wayne Allen Kankula of Painesville, OH; his sister, Stacy (Dennis) Calhoun of Chardon, OH; his brother, Scott (Diane) Kankula of Chardon, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Rose (nee: Ostrander) Kankula; his grandparents David and Patricia Ostrander; his uncle and aunt, Dave (Cindy) Ostrander, and his nephew, James “Jimmy” Kankula.
Jason leaves behind cherished memories, and his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at St. Lucy Parish, 16280 East High St., Middlefield, Ohio 44062. Following the Mass a Gathering for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
