James E. ”Jim” Brown, 71, of Avon Lake, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at home He was born April 28, 1936, in Lakewood and lived in Avon Lake for 48 years. Brown went to work for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in 1953. Upon his job being eliminated, he joined the former Society National Bank. After the elimination of his job with the bank, he became a computer specialist with Industrial Management Group (IMG), formerly of Cleveland, and continued for 40 years, retiring in 2004.He was active for 60 years with the Greater Cleveland Boy Scout Council and Boy Scout Troop 159 in Lakewood and in 1993 received the Silver Beaver Award, scouting’s highest national honor. His Troop 159 service included scoutmaster and he also served as an Explorer advisor at Bay Methodist Church and was a volunteer camp master for the Greater Cleveland Boy Scout council for many years. Even as his illness progressed he worked hard at Camp Beaumont in Ashtabula, removing trash and garbage and referring to himself as a ”litter-getter.”He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dian D. (nee Parks); son, Stephen Brown of Columbia Station; brother, Bryce Brown of Westlake; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryce and Agnes (nee Bontaski) Brown.Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Resthaven Memory Garden, 3700 Center Road, Avon. Jeff Sweitzer of Hospice of the Western Reserve, Elyria, will officiate.
