Funeral Service for Jake Schoeppler will be Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11:00AM at Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon with Pastor H. Daniel Drew presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Munson Twp., with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (on St Rt. 44, 500′ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square), Chardon, OH.Jake died peacefully at home on September 14, 2010 at age 89. He was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1928, a move for which he has always been thankful. During WWII he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps while a senior in college. He served in India, China, and Burma, and was discharged as a first Lieutenant. He earned both a Masters and Doctor of Education Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, where he met and married his beloved wife Olga “Vi ” Vipond.His working years took his family from Michigan to Wisconsin, Connecticut, New Jersey, and finally to Chardon, OH. His major employers were Chrysler, Michigan State University, and TRW from which he retired in 1986 as Director of Retirement Income. His work was always human resources related.During his working years he served on the School Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals in East Hanover, N.J. In Ohio he served on the Munson Twp Zoning Board, and as Chairman of the Geauga County Senior Center’s Board of Administration. As a resident of the Bass Lake Community he was active in the Bass Lake Club and enjoyed the friendship of many wonderful neighbors.Jake is survived by his wife of 61 years, daughter, Susan of Newport News, VA; sos; Scot of Duluth, GA, Kurt (Lori) of Willoughby, grandchildren; Rachel, Kelly, Erin, Jake, and Drew; and a brother, Otto of Klosters, Switzerland.Memorial Contributions are suggested to; Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon, OH 44024, The Geauga County Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Dr., Chardon, OH 44024, or to the charity of one’s choice.
