Homer Verlem Jordan, 84, of Hiram (Troy Twp) went home to be with his Lord & Savior on December 9, 2022. He was surrounded by the love of his wife, daughters, and grandchildren during a short illness, passing peacefully at home. Homer was born April 18, 1938, in Quincy, KY to Thurman & Hannah (White) Jordan, much to the chagrin of his older brother, Waynard, who shared the same birthday.
Homer left Quincy at around age 17 to come to Cleveland, Ohio for work. He tried several jobs before being hired at Cleveland Gear, where he worked his way up to General Foreman. He retired in 2000, after 43 years. He met FredaMay (Artman) at a boarding house in Cleveland and they married on November 12, 1955.
Homer, or “Bud” as he was known by family & friends, loved the Lord and taught his family Biblical principles. He was a member of The Church at Troy, where he loved singing in the choir, doing solos & sung with various men’s groups over the years. Bud enjoyed gardening, woodworking, spending time with his family, telling jokes & stories. He had a tremendous sense of humor as his siblings can attest. He showed his family, by example, how much he loved them by all the little things he did and by always telling them “I love you” every time he talked to them.
Bud will be greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, FredaMay, daughters, Deborah (David) Garlich and Pamela (Phillip) Malensek, Son in law, Curtis (Heather) Stroede, 9 grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Garlich, Chauntel Garlich, Jason Stroede, Amanda (Jared) Nolin, Ken (KellyJo) Stroede, Matthew (Malisa) Malensek, Aretta (Gene) Vanderpool, Meredith (Samuel) Severt and Luke (Kalah) Malensek, 19 great grandchildren (+1 coming) and 2 great great granddaughters. He also leaves a brother, Allen (Shirley) Jordan and 3 sisters, Myrtle Crawford, Dottie Gibson & Margie (Roger) Armstrong, plus many nieces and nephews.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven Joseph, daughter, KathyJo Ann Stroede, sisters Evelyn (3yrs), Ova Ellen (infant), Emma Farren & Oddie Hanners, Brothers, Elmer (Vondy) and Waynard Jordan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Church at Troy, 18712 Mumford Rd. Garrettsville, OH. His celebration of life will be Friday, December 16, 2022, at 11:00 AM, also at the church. Burial will be at the Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland, OH.
In lieu of flowers, Dad suggested you plant a maple tree or lilac bush in his memory to give back to the Earth.
