Hazel J. (Eichler) Stone, age 88, an area resident for the past 71 years, died Nov. 11, 2009, with her family by her side.She was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Cleveland.Mrs. Stone opened Security Federal, now known as First Merit Bank, with John Aumick in Chardon Plaza. After several years at home, she returned to work as chief deputy clerk at the Geauga County Treasurer’s Office. She later worked at Geauga Title handling escrows until her retirement in 1984.She married Clarence Archy Stone Sept. 29, 1950, at Pilgrim Christian Church.Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family on trips to Canada, camping, ceramics, fishing, feeding the birds, cooking, baking, and canning. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially poker and solitaire.Survivors are her daughter, Paula (Dennis) Paullin of Munson Township; son, Jeff (Karen) Stone of Chardon Township; grandchildren, Melissa (Todd) McWilliams of Mantua, Kelly (Kevin) Looymans of Westlake, Nathan (Ashlee Thompson) Stone of Huntsburg, and Jessica Stone of Chardon Township.She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Archy Stone; parents, George and Flossie (Clark) Eichler; and sisters, Lois Conant and Elaine Schlegel.
