Harriett Louise McConnell (nee: Shea) lived a remarkable life that spanned 97 years, filled with love, education, and adventure. She peacefully passed away on December 19, 2023 in Chardon, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Harriett was born on August 28, 1926, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Charles and Mollie (nee: Newton) Shea. Her journey began at the University of Connecticut, where she earned a BS in Chemistry. She further pursued her academic dreams at the Yale School of Nursing, attaining a master’s degree in nursing. Harriett’s intellectual pursuits did not end there; she married Ellicott McConnell of Groton, Connecticut, and together they embarked on a journey to Minnesota, where Ellicott pursued and earned his masters and PhD.

From 1957 to 1977, Harriett’s life took her to various corners of the globe. She lived in Panama, Egypt, and Ethiopia, experiencing different cultures and creating lasting memories. Her love for exploration extended to Europe, where she traveled extensively, adding to her rich tapestry of experiences.

In 1977, Harriett returned to the United States, making homes in Maryland and Northern Virginia before settling down in Easton, Maryland, for a well-deserved retirement. In 2021, she moved to Maplewood of Chardon, where she resided until her passing, surrounded by care and warmth.

Harriett enjoyed the art of sewing and the comfort of reading a good book. Her adventurous spirit also found expression in her passion for travel, a pursuit that brought her joy and fulfillment throughout her life.

Harriett is survived by her loving daughter, Anne (Richard) Naber of Flushing, Michigan, and her son, Craig (Kristina) McConnell of Chardon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Ellicott.

Harriett was laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut.
