Grace O. (Parsons) Mathews, 80, of Burton Village, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.Born Dec. 8, 1928, in Glenville, Gilmere County, W.Va., she had lived in Cleveland prior to moving to Geauga County more than 60 years ago.She attended Newbury United Community Church, when she lived in Newbury Township, was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing at Berkshire High School. She also loved crocheting. Mrs. Mathews worked with the elderly at Hamlet Hills and was a member of Geauga Aerie 2261 Auxiliary in Chardon.Mrs. Mathews worked as a receptionist at Hamlet Hills Retirement Village in Chagrin Falls and had been working for more than 45 years.Survivors are her daughters, Wilda Kosik of Simi Valley, Calif., and Eva Burgess of Aquilla Village; son, Leroy (Audrey) Blaine of Newton Falls; six grandchildren, Wade Brining, Pam Wagenbach, Greg Blaine, Angela Blaine and Scott and Rachel Burgess; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Barker of Parkersburg, W.Va.Her husband, Rollin Mathews, whom she married March 8, 1969, in Hambden Township, died Oct. 31, 1977. Her parents, Herbert and Oma (nee Douley) Parsons; grandson, Daniel Brining; sisters, Ida Williams and Betty Snyder; and brother, Harry Parsons, are also deceased.The Rev. Jeff Johnson of Christ Community Church in Chardon will officiate the service. Burial will be in Hambden Cemetery in Hambden Township.
