Georgette (Georgie) Adrian, 93, was born May 20, 1928 in Birmingham, England to Henry Arthur & Ellen (nee: Partridge) Pickering. She passed away with her children by her bedside on September 15, 2021 at Maplewood Assisted Living, Chardon Ohio.
Georgette immigrated to Canada with her husband Henry (John) & daughter in 1954 then to Ohio in 1956. Georgette and John were founding members of St. Luke Episcopal church where she served numerous terms on the vestry, was a long-time member of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and taught Sunday School. She also worked for Christ Church in Warren for several years as director of Christian Education. She was a woman of quiet but strong faith, which has sustained her through the years.
Friends and neighbors will remember Georgette for her gift of hospitality, always ready with a cup of tea and biscuits and a vase of fresh-cut flowers. She was an avid gardener and still worked in her garden until 3 years ago. This spring you might catch a daffodil blooming on the tree lawns of Center Street where she lived for 54 years or in the church garden which she planted and tended. She grew and propagated African violets and nurtured many indoor plants which she frequently gifted to her friends and family. She also loved to watch the birds at their feeders outside her windows and collected bird figurines which she lovingly arranged on her windowsill.
Georgette had a flair for decorating and an eye for beauty. She worked as a window decorator and salesperson for Arthur Hammonds in Coventry, Wind At Your Back and the Brown Barn in Munson. She was also a skilled seamstress and knitter, dabbled in watercolor painting and a variety of crafts.
She was an avid reader, she especially loved the Mitford Series and collected special edition books and magazines about the British Royal family. She loved anything that was English. Having lived through WWII in Coventry which was badly affected by the “blitz” she bore the strength, pride and determination instilled in every Brit who lived during those years. She would be the first to tell you she was a “stubborn Brit!”
She is survived by her beloved cousin, Joan Allen of Mentor, and her children, Carol Ann (Charlie) Younkin of Durham, N.C, Hannah Adrian of Mayfield Hts., OH, Judith Morris of Claridon Twp., Sally Jane (J.R.) Luker of Claridon Twp., David John (Lauren Elayan) Adrian of Chardon, Deborah (Charlie) Marotta of Pepper Pike,. She was grandmother to 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
Her parents, husband and brother preceded her in death.
