Frank Katuc Sr., 81, of Chardon Township,died Jan. 1, 2006, at Heather Hill in Munson Township.Born Jan. 29, 1924, in Cleveland, he had lived in the Chardon area since 1934.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Staff Sergeant in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He married Hazel Mae Graves on May 24, 1947, in Chardon. Hazel had been writing letters of support to the soldier boys. Mr. Katuc was stationed with her uncle and the relationship began. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, and watching sporting events.Mr. Katuc retired from Carlisle’s Department Store of Painesville in 2003, after 18 years of service. He also worked with his son as a flooring installer for Frank’s Floors in Middlefield for ten years and for the former Bostwick’s Department Store in Chardon.Survivors are his wife, Hazel Mae Katuc of Chardon Township; daughter, Dyan (Allan) McBride of Chardon Township; son, Frank (Jackie) Katuc Jr. of Fairport Harbor; granddaughters, Jennifer Gould and Kelly Goodyear; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Eging of Chardon and Jean Jacobson of Mentor.He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank John Katuc and Viola (Gaskins) Katuc Hupp.Donations may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland 44119.
