Frank Bartol, 89, of Hambden Township, passed away May 12, 2011, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital in Claridon Township.Born July 17, 1921, in Aurora, Minn., he had been a Lake and Geauga county resident for the last 59 years.Mr. Bartol was in test and development for General Motors Heavy Equipment Division for 31 years, retiring in 1975.Frank Bartol married Rita Shemple in Cleveland in 1943. She preceded him in death in 2003. Mr. Bartol proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He enjoyed working out in his yard, being out of doors, swimming and fishing. He enjoyed “”tinkering”” around the house and working on any engine or motor. Over the years, each of his grandchildren remembers something special about what he taught them in their youth.Survivors are his son, David (Anna) Bartol of Hambden Township; grandchildren, Tracy Reed of Painesville, Joseph (Heather) Bartol of Painesville, Joshua Bartol of Painesville, Drazenka (Sam) Porter of Atlanta, Ga., Christina, Michael and Stephanie Bartol of Hambden Township; seven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nancy Bartol of Painesville; sisters, Julie Ann Bartol of Hoyt Lakes, Minn., and Jennie of Milwaukee, Wis.; and brother, Thomas (Mary Ann) Bartol of Aurora, Minn.He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita (Shemple) Bartol; son, Frank D. Bartol; parents, John and Mary (Gornik) Bartol; brothers, Anthony and John; and sister May Peruscek.Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon.Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
