Esther (nee: Parsons) Johnson age 99 of Chardon passed away April 25, 2015 at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. The second of five daughters, born February 22, 1916 in Chardon to Hartley and Edna Laura (nee: Hitchcock) Parsons, she had been a lifelong Chardon resident. Esther graduated from Chardon High School Class of 1934. She attended and graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance, in 1938 with a degree in teaching. She married Ernest E. Johnson, Jr., whom she met at Mount Union on January 1, 1938. She was a substitute teacher for a number of years and then was the bookkeeper for Bostwick’s Department Store in Chardon for many years. She was the organist of the Chardon United Methodist Church for 35 years. Esther is survived by her children Sally J. (Gilbert) Kostelec of Chardon and Dorothy (David) Shultz of Menomonee Falls, WI; grandchildren Amy and Leigh Carson, Jeffrey (Shari), John (Heather) and Joseph (Nikki) Shultz and seven great-grandchildren Zachary, Thomas and Daniel Shultz, Hannah and Jack Shultz and Brady and Gavin Shultz. She is also survived by her sister Priscilla Eldredge of Chardon. Esther was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Ernest E. Johnson, Jr. and her sisters Dorothy Knapp, Louise Segoine and Jeanne Bostwick. Esther enjoyed life, music, golf and her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her many friends. She will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life will be 11am May 23, 2015 at the Chardon United Methodist Church 515 North Street Chardon, OH 44024. A private family burial will take place at Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
