Ernest H. Banzy, 87, of Newbury Township, died June 1, 2011, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.Born Aug. 7, 1923, in Boston, Mass, he had lived in Oakwood Village before moving to Newbury Township 11 years ago.Mr. Banzy was the head of data processing for Ohio Machinery in Cleveland, retiring in 1988, after many years of service.Ernest H. Banzy married Vera Krafcik, she preceded him in death June 20, 1990.Mr. Banzy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving during World War II. He enjoyed gardening and playing the harmonica and a member of the “Geauga Senior Harps,” the harmonica group through the Geauga Senior Center. He enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada.Mr. Banzy built his first home from the ground up. He was a very giving person who enjoyed helping people. He was known for his clambakes and cookouts. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.He is survived by his sweetheart and longtime companion of 21 years, Mary Lynn Dinardo of Newbury Township.He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera (Krafcik) Banzy; parents, Joseph and Mary (Gumula) Banzy; sisters, Jean Staudte, Clara Russo, Florence Ohanian and Evelyn Fraser; and brother, Edward Banzy.Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at The Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, OH 44024. The Rev. Thomas Gilles of the church will officiate.Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, (Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.
