Elizabeth Newberry, 82, passed away Sept. 1, 2006, at her home. Born Oct. 22, 1923, in Cleveland, she was a resident of Chardon for 71 years, residing in Avon Park, Fla. for the past 10 years. Elizabeth was a graduate of Chardon High School, class of 1942, and married Stanley Newberry, Nov. 28, 1942 in Chester Township. When living in Chardon, Mrs. Newbury was an active member of the Pilgrim Christian Church. She also worked for the Geauga County Election Board in the Chardon area. After retiring, she volunteered for the reading program Park Elementary School in Chardon. Mrs. Newberry was school secretary for Hambden Elementary School in Hambden Township for 10 years, retiring in 1981. Survivors are her husband, Stanley Newberry of Avon Park, Fla.; daughters, Carolyn (Kenneth) Luoma of Avon Park, Fla. and Joan (Lon) Beach of Grover, Mo.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Ash of Chardon; and sister-in-law, Ann Ash of Chardon. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Maude (Wolfe) Ash; brothers, Orland and Harold Ash; and sisters, Virginia Ash and Juanita Roberts.Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Garden in Chester Township. The Pastor Robert D. Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church will officiate the services.
