Elizabeth Betty Berends (nee: Hudec), age 96, of Auburn Township, passed away on February 21, 2005, at the Holly Hill Nursing Home, Newbury Township. She had lived in Chardon since 1957, before moving to Auburn Township in 1992.She was born June 10, 1908 in Mt. Pleasant, PA. In Cleveland, on June 7, 1930, Betty Hudec married Fred Chick Berends. He preceded her in death in 1967.Mrs. Berends enjoyed gardening and bird-watching. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her pets. Her most valued time was spent with her grandchildren.Survivors include her son, Kenneth (Shirley) Berends of Auburn Township; grandchildren, Mary Pluto of Homestead, FL, Beverly Vidra of Auburn Twp. and Mark (Sharon) Berends of Salisbury, MD; great-grandchildren, Amy Vidra, Elizabeth Pluto, Summer and Amber Berends; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Louise(nee: Hrabek) Hudec, three brothers and 3 sisters.The faily has suggested contributions bemade in her memory to the Geauga County Dog Pound, 12513 Merritt Road, Chardon, OH 44024.
