Born in Arnstein, Germany, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1953 and lived in Euclid before moving to Chardon in 1961.She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cleveland State University in 1970 and her Master’s of Library Science from Case Western Reserve University in 1975. Her career at General Electric encompassed several positions including head technical librarian at Nela Park, and she retired with more than 35 years of service.Married Winfried Martin on December 2, 1944 and had been married for 58 yearswhen he died on September 20, 2002.Her interests included classical music. She was an accomplished classical pianist, was fluent in French as well as German and English, and in recent years enjoyed reading many books in French.She was an avid knitter, and, until prevented by joint degeneration in her hands, knitted many articles of clothing, including hats for cancer patients and sweaters for family and friends. Her loyal dog “Will” brought her a great deal of joy and was a faithful companion over the last 2-1/2 years of her life.She loved her home and the beautiful piece of property that her late husband nurtured over his life.She was fiercely independent and determined to remain in her home until the end of her life. Although forced by illness to leave her home in her last months, she maintained her sharp mental abilities and managed her own affairs until the very last day of her life.Survivors include her daughter; Dr. Sonya Martin Schwaegerle, husband Daniel Schwaegerle and their children Kristen, Peter, Noah, Kate and Grace of Rye, NHSisters; Alexa McCubbin of Shaker Heights and Sigrid Brunjes of Gelsenkirchen, Germany
