Dr. Edwin A. Hissa II, age 70, peacefully passed away on April 17, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 20, 1953, in Cleveland and grew up in Burton, Ohio. He attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati and worked for the Cleveland Clinic for 35 years as an orthopedic surgeon. For the past 18 years he lived in Jackson, and he worked at Holzer Medical Center until his recent retirement. He was a life-long Catholic and attended St Helen Catholic Church in Newbury and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Woolman Hissa; his sisters, Ann (Mike) Humphrey and Alisa (Guy) Humphrey; brothers, Michael Hissa and Mathew (Jennifer) Hissa. He is also survived by his children, Erin (Jason) Cunningham, Edwin (Jordan) Hissa, and Julia (Chris Ilacqua) Hissa, as well as stepchildren, Thomas Enerva, Samuel Enerva and Joseph Enerva. He had five grandchildren and many, many nieces, and nephews.

Edwin is preceded in death by parents, Edwin and Joan (nee: Bartek) Hissa and his brother, Mark Hissa.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, OH 44024 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at St Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury, OH 44065. A burial will follow at Welton Cemetery in Burton, OH.

Ed and I first met as interns at the Cleveland Clinic. I knew that he had been a high school state champion in wrestling. He was a great colleague and I had the privilege of being his ophthalmologist for almost 40 years. Besides being an excellent orthopedic surgeon, I came to appreciate his interests outside of medicine including growing grapes and making wine on his property in southern Ohio, which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy. My condolences to his lovely wife, Evelyn, and the rest of his family.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Dr. Hissa, with whom I enjoyed working with in the OR at Lake West Hospital. He was an excellent orthopedic surgeon. My prayers of comfort for his family.

From all of us here in Madrid, we send our deepest condolences. My cousin Sim was a wonderful person that kept my father's side of the family together and in touch. We fortunately were able to see him in September past when we returned to Cleveland for the first time in 6 years. Short visit, but fantastic. I know that his memory will remain strong in all our lives. Strong, just like he always was.

Dr.Hissa was a great man, a great surgeon, and a great friend. So very sorry for your loss.

My husband Alan was a pt of this gentleman for many years until he left the state. He did many complicated surgeries that worked wonders for him After he left he lost his leg unnecessarily. How many times he said "I wish BIG Eddie was here." Rest in peace Dr. Hissa and say Hello to Alan when u get there

DearEd Hissa Family, I share my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. Ed Hissa. I enjoyed my association with Ed during his time at Geauga Medical and Saint Michael Medical Centers. His passion for medicine and caring for people is a dominant part of his legacy. As a hospital President, I valued his partnership and undivided support of me. To Dr. Hissa’s family, I have never met a more compassionate physician. I worked with him for several years. I learned so much. It’s my prayer that you can comfort one another during this time of sadness.😔

Evelyn, I am so sorry to hear of docs passing. I thoroughly enjoyed being his nurse and working with him. We always talked about flowers and the vineyard! He will truly be missed! Wish I would have been able to say goodbye❤️🙏🏻Kayla(Blondie)
