EDWARD “EDI” KRASOVEC
Age 97, peacefully passed away on May 19, 2023, at Kirtland Rehabilitation & Care Center. Born March 15, 1926 in Slovenia, the former Yugoslavia, the village of Šešče, to Edward and Marija (nee: Zgank) Krasovec. Edward came to the United States in 1950 through Ellis Island becoming a successful entrepreneur, starting Cuyahoga Molded Plastics in Euclid in 1958, with two partners, which is operating still today. Edi retired in 1991. He was an avid reader of European history, having been in the German Army, defecting, becoming an American POW in Southern Italy. While defecting, he was shot by the German Army and was cared for by the Americans. Edi enjoyed boating on Lake Erie. He had a meticulous yard and home, he enjoyed hiking through the woods and wintered in Arizona with his wife, Martha.
Survivors include his wife whom he married in 1993, Martha (nee: Miller) Krasovec of Chardon, children Sylvia (Frank) Cestnik of Chardon, Anna Marie (Edward) Zalar of Concord Twp., and Irene (Charles) Hamilton of Chardon; step-son, Aaron (Julie) Smythe of Millington, MI; grandchildren Tanya (Benjamin) Deszczykiewicz of Chardon, Edward Zalar of Rocky River, Frank (Stephanie) Cestnik of AuburnTwp., Veronica (Kevin) McCausland of Bainbridge, Natasha (Robert) Haas of Chardon, Evan Smythe of Chardon, Connor Smyth of Holly, MI, Ethan Smyth of Flint, MI; great grandchildren Elle and Addison Deszczykiewicz, Nora and John Zalar, Aiden, Benjamin and Rose McCausland, Bo Haas. Edi was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia (nee: Voje) Krasovec in 1983, granddaughter Maria Zalar, his parents, step-son Evan H. Smythe and his sister Milica Krasovec.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 when Mass of Christian Burial begins at The Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon. Private family burial will be at a later date in Slovenia.
