Edward J. Wenzel, 88 of Chardon, Ohio, died at his home on April 21, 2008. Born in Cleveland Ohio he has been living in Chardon for over 70 years. He was a Layout man for COE Mfg in Painesville, Ohio retiring in 1985 after 20 years of service. He also had worked as an electrician for Floyd Miller in Chardon and in his retirement, he managed the Geauga Self Storage in Chardon. Mr. Wenzel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, SAO 2nd Class, WW II, served in Pacific and European Theaters. Member of the American Legion Post 167 in Chardon, OH, VFW Post 6519 in Chardon, OH; Village Lodge #274, F&AM, Burton, OH (Formerly Chardon #93), Geauga Aerie #2261 FOE in Chardon, OH and a Former member of Hambden Grange #2482. He enjoyed golfing in the Monday League at Rolling Green Golf Course, He also was active in bowling leagues at the former B&V Lanes and Ernst Lanes in Chardon. Played softball in the Eagles League in Chardon. Loved to spend time and fishing at the cabin he and his wife built in Harlowe, Ontario. Avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. Graduate of Chardon High School, Class of 1938. He is survived by his wife Jeanne Louise (nee: Dewalt) Wenzel, whom he married, May 12, 1946 in Chardon, OH. Daughter Blythe J. (Leo Elersic) Wenzel of Munson Twp., OH; Son Douglas H. (Jane) Wenzel of Chardon, OH; 2 Grandchildren: Melisa DeMell of Concord Twp., OH and Heath Wenzel of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; 2 Great-granchildren: Katie and Timmy DeMell and Step-grandson: Michael J. Elersic of Las Vegas, NV and Sister Beverly (John) Geil of Malabar, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Helen (nee: Brasch) Wenzel and brother Leroy Wenzel.
