Funeral services for Edward C. Bopp, 86, of Newbury TownshipMr. Bopp died Oct. 7, 2008, at his home in Newbury Township.Born Feb. 27, 1922, in Mineral Point, Pa., he lived in Summerhill, Pa., before moving to Newbury Township in 1951.He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the “Old Guard” at TRW. An avid gardener, he also enjoyed cooking. He was a proud father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.Mr. Bopp had worked as a plater and supervisor at TRW for 35 years, retiring as a foreman.Survivors are his wife, Betty (Schnars) Bopp, whom he married May 18, 1946, in South Fork, Pa.; daughters, Gale Bice of Newbury Township and Karen Bailey of Newbury Township; grandchildren, James (Tammy) Battaglia of Michigan, Daniel Battaglia of Newbury Township, Michael (Kelly) Bailey of Newbury Township, Travis (Jennifer) Bailey of Newbury Township, and Melissa Bailey of Newbury Township; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother, George W. “Bill” Smith of Sidman, Pa.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Bopp and Margaret (Schmidt) Bopp Smith; sisters, Eleanor Bopp, Irene Schaffer and Marie Lazeration; and brothers, Joseph C. “JC,” Bernard, Raymond and Carl Bopp.The Rev. Thomas Gilles of The Church of St. Mary in Chardon will officiate the service. Burial will be in Munn Cemetery in Newbury Township.
