Dr. Robert “Doc” Alexander DVM, Age 89, of Chardon, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at his residence. He was born on August 31, 1929, in Pemberville, OH, to Kenneth and Susie (Nee: Bruning) Alexander. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University, School of Veterinary Medicine and served in the US Army.
Doc married Beverly Gorrill on August 21, 1953. They lived in Westlake, Ohio, where they raised their 4 children. He then married Georgiann Farinacci in Chardon, on June 21, 1989.
He owned the Wiley Avenue Animal Clinic in Cleveland, OH; served as the Cuyahoga County Dog Warden as well as the Manager/Director of the Cleveland Animal Protective League. Doc was an avid skier and enjoyed his vacation home in Ellicottville, NY. He was also an active sailor and raced out of the Lakeside Yacht Club. A farmer at heart, his wonderful “Kitchen Garden” supplied the neighborhood with vegetables and herbs. On a happiness scale of one to ten, Doc was always a twelve.
Survivors include his wife, Georgiann of Chardon; daughter, Juli of Seaside, CA; sons, Bradley (Elizabeth) Alexander of Medina, OH, and David (Bonnie) Alexander of Olmsted Falls, OH; twin brother, James of Pemberville, OH; step-children, Don (Donna) Farinacci of Valley City, OH, Rex Farinacci of Mentor, OH, Ann (Tim) Litts of Chardon, OH; 7 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. Doc was preceded in death by 2 sons, Craig and Chris; grandson, Kent; 2 brothers, Henry and Don; sister, Doris Fessler; and step-daughter Lyn Cortez.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, OH. The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, at the Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 South Hambden St., Chardon, Ohio 44024, followed by a Celebration of Life, 3:00 PM at the Crop Bistro, 2537 Lorain Rd., Cleveland, OH.
