Dorothy J. Porter age 78, formerly of Chesterland, OH, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Friday, December 16th at HRC Manor Care in Pinehurst, NC. She was born in Detroit, MI in 1933 to Francis and Margaret (nee: Clark) James. She met her husband while attending Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was the loving and dedicated wife of the late Frederick C. Porter III. She is survived by her three children, Frederick C. Porter IV “Rick” (Katherine) Porter of Chardon, OH; Catherine Porter (Mike) Sapienza of Orland, CA; and Lynn Porter (Mike) Melton of Pinehurst, NC; three grandchildren, James Porter, William Porter and Mackenzie Melton along with seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister Eileen Wolff. Dorothy, along with her husband Fred, was a resident of Chesterland from 1956-2008. She was a homemaker and worked at the Metzenbaum School in Chesterland from 1976-1993. She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society for many years and was active with the Chesterland Assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, serving as the Mother Advisor. Dorothy was a member of Clover Chapter and Western Reserve Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving in many offices including Worthy Matron. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family, entertaining friends and family, sewing and jewelry making.
