Mr. Ford was a Veteran of the U S Army serving at Normandy, was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He is a lifelong member of the Newbury American Legion Post, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Ford was the Chief Deputy for the Geauga County Sheriff’s Dept. under Sheriff Robusky. He served as Geauga County Commissioner 1976-1980 and after retiring from the Commissioners office, he was with the Director of the Board of Elections from 1984 until 1999. He was an intrical part of the Geauga County Democratic Party for more than 50 years. He and his wife enjoyed their winter home in Astor, Florida since retirement. They took their motor home to spend winters in the south with friends. He became an avid fisherman and they and friends enjoyed traveling through out the United States. They would take their motor homes and sight see. He has been in every state in the Union. Mr. Ford was one of the original incorporators of the Geauga Savings Bank in 1983. He was also owned and operated Geauga Road and Driveway Maintenance, Inc. for 30 years, retiring early 1990’s. Survivors include his wife Beth (nee: Holocker) Ford of Newbury Twp., whom he married December 29, 1945, daughters Lauren (Rick) Shackleford of Pauleys Island, SC and Louise Ward of Newbury Twp., son Jim (Emma) Ford of Munson Twp., grandchildren Deanne Zak of Toledo, Richard (Courtney) Ward of Warren, Paul (Andrea) Ford of Mt. Pleasant, SC; great grandchildren Kollin and Hanna Ward; sisters June (Chuck) Lorraine of Tampa, FL, Betty Ann Felberg of Munson Twp, and Lillian Rauch of Middlefield, brother David (Joan) Ford of Meadville, PA. His parents Cecil and Lillian (nee: Baley) Ford and brother Robert Ford are deceased.
