Demetrea ‘Jenny’ (Spaliatsos) Smith, 88 of Chardon passed away Nov. 5, 2013; at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg. Born Nov. 28, 1924; to the late Thomas and Theresa (Sekeres) Spaliatsos in Cleveland, she had been a long time resident of Chardon. Mrs. Smith was the beloved wife of 63 years of Oscar Wayne Smith; cherished mother of Oscar W (Jeanie) Smith III; David (Mary Beth), Clifford (Deborah), Robert (Diane) and Diana (Smith) Miner. Grand-mother of Tracy McDaniel, Kristen Collette, Kelly Gibas, Sarah Welsh, Vanessa Smith, Tiffany Smith, Rachel Miner, Michael Miner; great grandmother of Carmen, Riley, Carlee, Teagan and Steven. Sister of Eugenia George, Helen Smith, Christina Horvath and Barbara T. Paul; aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews. Demetrea was preceded in death by her brother Charles Spaliatsos and sister Catherine Gates. Demetrea served in the Women’s Army Airforce as an aerial photographer from 1944-1946. She was active in her community, helping to plan dances and Fourth of July celebrations at the club house in Lake Aquilla. Demetrea loved to travel, was an avid reader and was accomplished with embroidery, insuring every family member had a hand crafted linen in which to remember her. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm Tues., Nov. 12, 2013; at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (Rt. 44, 500 feet south of Rt 6/Chardon Square), Chardon; with a Trisagion service at 7 pm. Funeral Services will be at 11 am Wed., Nov. 13, 2013; at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 2187 W 14th St., Cleve. Burial will follow at St. Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral Cemetery, 8200 Biddulph Rd., Brooklyn OH.
